We are grateful for the many donations that have enriched the Laurance S. Rockefeller Library in the past. However, addition of materials to the Library’s collection requires a substantial investment of time and resources on the part of CIIS; accordingly, acceptance or refusal of any gift is ultimately the decision of the library leadership. Even gifts that meet the donation guidelines may occasionally be refused due to budgetary or space limitations, or other considerations.
Gifts of personal collections of particularly large quantity are generally not accepted. Items may be accepted if they support the curricular and research needs of CIIS and are also:
Some examples of items we cannot accept for donation include:
If you wish to donate to the Laurance S. Rockefeller Library, first create an itemized list including title, author, material type (book, DVD, or CD) and publication date for each item you wish to donate. The Library will need this information to determine which items we can accept. Then, contact the library at library@ciis.edu, or by calling the Library Office Manager at 1-415-575-6184.
If we determine we can accept your donation, you will be asked to sign a deed of gift and items become the property of the Laurance S. Rockefeller Library and at a later date may be discarded, sold, or donated at the discretion of the Library staff. Or, you may request in advance that items not selected by the library be returned to you.
We will be happy to provide you with a receipt acknowledging your gift. Note that CIIS does not estimate the value of a gift for tax purposes.
