Student Guide to Using ERes
"Reserve Materials Made Easy"
CIIS's new software, ERes, represents an exciting opportunity to upgrade
and simplify placing readings on reserve for student use. Faculty members
can create a classroom space for readings on a computer at CIIS, easily
accessible over the network or the Internet by students, both at CIIS
in the computer lab and Library, and off-campus at student's homes and
offices. Readings on ERes will be accessible to students 24 hours a day,
seven days a week, without waiting for other readers to finish. ERes enables
copyright management; easing faculty concerns in this regard.
How do I find ERes?
ERes is located at http://reserve.ciis.edu.
It is also linked from the Library Web site at http://library.ciis.edu.
How do I access the reading material?
At any computer at CIIS, or off-campus with access to the Internet, you
can access ERes by using the Web address http://reserve.ciis.edu
and clicking on the hyperlink "Electronic Reserves and Course Materials."
Course pages are listed by department or instructor, or accessed using
a "QuickSearch" function.
Once reaching the course page, before using any materials, you must enter
the password that was chosen for the class by your instructor. This makes
sure that only the students registered in the class can access classroom
materials and maintains copyright compliance. It is the instructor's
responsibility to give the password to the students.
To access material on ERes listed as being in the "pdf" format, your
computer will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader software. This software
is free and downloadable at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.
All CIIS computers, including those in the lab and Library, have this
software loaded already. Course materials can be viewed on the computer
screen, or in accordance with options available with Adobe Acrobat Reader,
printed, saved or emailed. The Adobe Acrobat Reader also contains buttons
(shown below) that allow you to change the size or orientation of any
material. Note that the page numbers used for navigating and printing
in Adobe are the ones listed at the bottom of the page, not the ones listed
on the material itself.
